Castroville Middle School Stabbing

On March 5, 2018 at about 08:34 a.m, Monterey County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the Castroville Middle School at 10301 Seymour Street, Castroville on a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.  Fire and Medical personnel were also responding.  While responding to the school, deputies were told by the County Communications Dispatcher that the two subjects involved were separated.
Upon arrival, at about 08:45 a.m., Deputies contacted the suspect, who was sitting in the Principals Office.  The suspect was immediately detained.  The investigation is ongoing, however, preliminary information is that an altercation occurred in an outdoor quad area on campus.  The male suspect (age 12) stabbed the male victim (age 12) in the upper torso with a kitchen knife, approximately 5 – 6 inches in length.  The suspect did not comply with school staff/administrators and began waiving the knife at others.  A school staff member subdued the suspect from behind and secured the knife.  The suspect was escorted to the Principals Office.
At 08:49 a.m., School Administrators decided to place their school on lock down to allow the Medical Helicopter to land on campus.  The lock down was lifted at 09:45 a.m. and the victim was life-flighted to a trauma center in the San Jose area.
The suspect was taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Monterey County Juvenile Hall.
